Part of this uniqueness is the dichotomy between the rise of the status of women amidst simultaneous rising rates of violence and discrimination.  While India is changing, and making strides for good it has yet to shake the harsh reality that it is the most dangerous place on earth to be a girl.<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d413e59 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d413e59\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">An Indian girl child aged 1-5 years is 75% more likely to die than an Indian boy, making this the worst gender differential in child mortality for any country in the world.<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2fa5e5f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"2fa5e5f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">India is such a dangerous place to be a girl because it is such a dangerous place to be a woman. The subjugation of women begins, is perpetuated, and repeats generation after generation in the home. It is an unpalatable and yet as such insufficiently appreciated fact that much, if not most, of the violence in society takes place within a family setting (John Ekeelaaz, Family Law Social Policy.) Each year violence, especially domestic violence is increasing. Significant numbers of India\u2019s population are routinely subjected to torture, starvation, terrorism, humiliation, mutilation, and murder simply because they are female. Crimes such as these should be recognised a civil and political emergency.<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-467d5f7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"467d5f7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">\u201d What is this thinking that we have in us? What is this thinking that make us men believe that we have a right to hit a woman? And what is this thinking that makes many women accept this beating for years on end?<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8d734ab elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"8d734ab\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">If one section of society were to start physically beating up and assaulting another section of society, the police would declare it a riot. Over 50% of young boys and girls believe that a husband hitting his wife is normal. Acceptance of abuse at home not only perpetuates the cycle of abuse, but it is one of the causing factors in young girls leaving their homes and being trafficked into some kind of exploitation. For most of the girls that we reach in schools, it is the first time they have ever heard that abuse is wrong and that they have a voice that matters. Learning that it is okay to speak up, and perhaps more importantly, knowing that there is someone who will listen provides girls with the freedom to be their own change agents.
